WHAT ABOUT ATHLETA’S ETHICS?

Ethics, Pricing and Charity Work?

Is Athleta Ethical?

Yes, in some areas, but still has a long way to go. This certified B corporation is committed to community and giving back. Athleta is a subsidiary of Gap, Inc (aquired by them in 2008), that focuses exclusively on female athletes and is one of the only athleisure brands to incorporate a little girls line. They truly have a body-positive, inclusive sizing approach.

They state that nearly 300 million plastic bottles have been repurposed into their recycled fabrics; 100% of their shopping bags are made from recycled material; they have helped divert 1.1 million tonnes of fabric waste from ending up in landfills; they have contributed $1million dollars to workers in their Fair Trade Certified factories.

They also report to be using more efficient fabric dyeing and finishing techniques. However little detail is given on the specifics of this, or where the products are manufactured or how/where the materials are sourced.

Is Athleta Expensive?

From $12.50 for a pair of ankle socks, to $349 for a waterproof Down parka jacket.

Is Athleta Involved with Charities?

Yes, they have partnered with the Women’s Sports Foundation to create the Power Of She Fund, empowering women and girls in sport, at work, in the community and at home. They also support the American Cancer Society, LGBT Sports Safe Inclusion Program, and Brown Girls Do Ballet®, and they are a member of the Fashion Positive PLUS initiative.
