WHAT ABOUT ORGANIC BASICS’ ETHICS?

Ethics, Pricing and Charity Work?

Is Organic Basics Ethical?

Yes. Organic Basics say they work with SEDEX and SA8000 certified factories, providing workers with a living wage in at least 50% of the factories they’re in business with. They have a very body-positive ethos, with multiple size options.

Organic Basics knows 100% of their fabric and trim suppliers they launched the Responsible Packaging Movement in 2020. 80% of their factories run partially on renewable energy and 60% of their factories recycle all of their textile waste. Organic Basics partners with One Carbon World to offset their carbon emissions and become carbon neutral. They’re also committed to reduce their carbon emissions by 50%, even as they grow. They even have a Low Impact version of their website that reduces data transfer and therefore energy consumption for the user.

They are very clear and transparent about their limitations and future plans, including working towards a system to take back their product lines for end of life recycling or repurposing, and working with their suppliers to be able to trace their cotton back to the farm – currently the cotton in Turkey is sold on auctions.

Is Organic Basics Expensive?

Prices range from 8 EUR for a 2-pack of organic cotton socks, to 175 EUR for an organic cotton ‘heavy’ hooded sweater.

Is Organic Basics Involved with Charities?

Yes, they support grassroots environmental initiatives (for example WWF©, Rewilding Europe and Nordic Ocean Watch) through their Organic Basics Fund; they are a certified 1% for the planet member which means that they dedicate at least 1% of their online sales to environmental causes.
