Is Patagonia Ethical?

Yes. It is safe to say Patagonia is one of the largest and most ethically and sustainably conscious, and proactive, companies out there. Patagonia is a founding and accredited member of the Fair Labor Association (FLA). They are very transparent in their social responsibility efforts, ensuring that their products are produced under safe, fair, legal and humane working conditions.

The Down they use in their infamous jackets is 100% Advanced Global Traceable Down Standard; 100% of their electricity needs in the USA have been met with renewable energy; and 87% of their line uses recycled materials.

As part of their responsible consumerism efforts, they provide information online about repairing and restoring used or damaged items. They have also set up their own used-clothing/kit site called ‘Worn Wear’, where they encourage recycling, sharing, trading in and repairing their items.

Is Patagonia Expensive?

From 19 USD for a pair of Merino wool anklet socks, to 799 USD for a ‘Frozen Range 3-in-1’ Down parka jacket.

Is Patagonia Involved with Charities?

Yes! The founders of Patagonia created 1% for the planet, and started a global movement. Since 1985, Patagonia has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. They’ve awarded over $140 million in cash and in-kind donations to domestic and international grassroots environmental groups making a difference in their local communities through their Patagonia Action Works scheme. They also support 1400 groups working on issues from biodiversity loss to climate action.
