WHAT ABOUT PRANA’S ETHICS?

Ethics, Pricing and Charity Work?

Is Prana Ethical?

Yes. Prana was one of the first brands to partner with Fair Trade USA for apparel back in 2010. And since then, they’ve been able to convert 11 factories to Fair Trade Certified and generate premiums which benefited 26,000+ workers worldwide. They follow the 5 Freedoms Act of Animal Welfare, ensuring any farm-raised, animal-derived material source they used complies with a number of ethical standards.

Despite being bought by Columbia Sportswear in 2014, their sustainability and ethical efforts only seem to have accelerated. They work with the Renewal Workshop, which has allowed them to divert 44k+ pounds of garment waste from landfill since 2016. Most of their packaging is responsible and recyclable, and they launched the Responsible Packaging Movement in 2020.

As well as working towards 100% recyclable packaging materials, they are clear with other progressive goals, including aiming for 30% reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030; 100% of their products to be made in a Fair Trade Certified Factory by 2028; and 100% of their products to be made with preferred fibers and materials by 2025. They also use bluesign® approved fabrics and materials and aim for 100% of their fabrics and materials to be bluesign® approved by 2024.

Is Prana Expensive?

Prices range from 29 USD for a men’s t-shirt, to 449 USD for a women’s RDS Down waterproof long jacket.

Is Prana Involved with Charities?

Yes, they are a supporting partner of Canopy’s Pack4Good Initiative that has helped transform their packaging supply chain, whilst adhering to FSC standards. They are also a founding member of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) Climate Action Corps, who are committed to measuring, planning, and reducing their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and sharing their progress annually. Prana also partner with The 5 Gyres Institute against plastic pollution; Outdoor Outreach, introducing kids from under-resourced communities to a variety of activities, and The Conservation Alliance.
